Right at the start, the trail takes you right into the heart of the “Wälder auf dem Leuscheid” nature reserve with its near-natural beech forests, stream valleys and wet heaths. With a bit of luck, you may encounter rare animal species such as the black woodpecker, fire salamander or alpine newt along the way. You cross the Kesselbach stream on a pretty natural stone bridge, pass slopes with young oak trees and reach a medieval rampart. It was probably mainly used to protect the population in the event of attacks. The route continues uphill and leads through sparse deciduous forests. Again and again, the succession areas of former spruce stands open up surprising views into the valley. Shortly after the transmission mast, there is an opportunity to take a detour to the “Blauer Stein” natural monument. A trail leads into the dreamy Werfer Bachtal valley, where passages alternate between the forest and meadows. Deep in the forest, you reach the healing fountain near Ohmbach, where benches and tables invite you to take a break. According to legend, the spring water once healed a robber baron's daughter who had gone blind. The path meanders along paths through sparse reforestation areas and deciduous forest down the valley to Herchen. You reach the railroad bridge over the Sieg via steps and pass the Herchen train station. The last section of the tour takes you uphill and downhill through forest and across meadows back to Stromberg, where you will reach the starting point after a rest in the oak grove and crossing the Sieg.
