The go-to place for a varied cultural experience | Theater und Konzerthaus Solingen More than 500 top-class events each year attract visitors from near and far to the “city of blades”. More precisely, to the Theater und Konzerthaus Solingen, which is widely regarded as the best place to go for cultural experiences of a special kind.
It is located between Mühlenplatz and Schlagbaum in the north of the city centre. From the outside, the building, which is almost 60 years old, doesn’t look its age at all. Clear forms and lots of glass portray the timeless elegance of the Bauhaus style.
Inside, form and function combine to create a harmonious whole. Two venues covering an area of 14,000 m² are connected to each other, but at the same time they are self-contained and acoustically separate. The 750-seat Pina Bausch Hall hosts a wide variety of (dance) theatre performances, while on the concert side, the large and small concert halls host musical performances by the Bergische Symphoniker (joint symphony orchestra of the cities of Remscheid and Solingen) as well as comedy shows, cabaret and parties.
The municipal cultural management department organises around 200 events a year here. These include not only philharmonic concerts, operas and operettas, plays and cabaret, but also performances for children and young people, school and special concerts as well as parties and trade fairs.
