From Marienheide train station, first you go to the Brucher valley reservoir. Cycling along by the water, you travel in the direction of Müllenbach. The route then continues on to Dannenberg, the highest point on the themed route at 460 metres above sea level. After this, you turn off after Börlinghausen to the source of the Wipper and then on to the Lingese valley reservoir. From there, the trail goes along the former railway line. You then come to Ohl via Gogarten. Here, the gunpowder sites and the Schwarzpulvermuseum (gunpowder museum), where the history of black gold is recounted, are well worth visiting.

The trail then continues along the former railway line to Wipperfürth. The Hanseatic city is almost 800 years old and was founded in 1217. You then cycle along the railway line past Neyesiedlung via Hartkopsbever as far as Hückeswagen, which will bring you to the Wupper valley reservoir. After the Kräwinklerbrücke bridge, you cycle along the former railway line in the direction of Radevormwald.

Over the Bergisches Land hills via Schwenke, Anschlag and Kreuzberg you come to Rönsahl and Gogarten and return to where you started out from in Marienheide.

During the summer months from March to October, the "Bergische FahrradBus", or Bergisch bike bus, travels between Leverkusen-Opladen and Marienheide on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. For anyone who only wants to cycle part of Radroute Wasserquintett (Water Quintet Cycle Route), it’s possible to travel back with the bike bus from Marienheide, Wipperfürth or Hückeswagen. Up to 20 bikes can be transported at the same time on the bus trailer. Further information can be found at www.bergischer-fahrradbus.de.
