Brucher Valley Reservoir

The Brucher valley reservoir is a leisure lake, idyllically situated in the green countryside by Marienheide. You can complete a loop on foot in about an hour by taking the beautiful pathways along the banks (approx. 3.5 km). There is a campsite right by the lake, inviting you to spend a relaxing and comfortable stay by the water. The Brucher valley reservoir is known for its fantastic sailing.

On hot days, the various swimming spots at the Brucher valley reservoir beckon:

• at the DLRG (German Life Saving Society) station
• at the reservoir wall
• at the campsite

The Brucher valley reservoir is close to the source of the Wupper and was built from 1912 to 1913. 3.37 million cubic metres of water are needed to fill it. The water basin has a surface area of 47.4 hectares.

Crayfish, our indigenous river crabs, used to be widespread throughout the many streams of the Bergisches Land. Today, they are threatened by invasive crab species, who transmit a harmful fungal disease. But they are still to be found in the Brucher valley reservoir! The crabs are nocturnal and can only be seen in darkness.
