Near the Trimbach, the Cologne manufacturer Everhard Schülgen founded the Elisenthal powder mill in 1871. Under strict safety precautions, Schülgen had black powder produced here for blasting in mines and quarries. Remains of the buildings and debris can still be found in the forest today. A circular path leads over footbridges through the former production site.
