When wool brought fame and fortune | Lennep Textile Museum Looms once clattered, steam engines hissed and fulling mills groaned on the banks of the river Wupper. The finest cloth was produced against this background of noise helping Lennep achieve its fame. Take a trip back in time and learn all about the rise and fall of the textile industry in the Bergisches Land at the Textile Museum.
How does sheep’s wool become an elegant suit? How did the weavers and clothmakers live and work? Why is there nothing left of the former boom in textile production? The Lennep Textile Museum has the answers and tells all in its fascinating exhibition.
Six rooms vividly document the textile industry in detail. The entire spectrum of the clothmaking trade from the commercial establishments that brought the Bergisch cloth to market, to the river Wupper as the energy source and Lennep as an industrial stronghold is covered in this exhibition. As well as the varied exhibition programme, you can also get “hands-on” at the museum at one of the weaving workshops that are held twice a year.
