A silent witness to time | Gräfrath monastery church – St. Mariä Himmelfahrt
In Gräfrath, the eye is almost always automatically drawn to the Bergisch monastery church, which towers high above the historic centre. The magnificent sacred building rises proudly above the rooftops. It was first mentioned in the 12th century. A lot has happened since then. Although the church has been destroyed several times, it has always been rebuilt. A visit is worthwhile, as the wonderful Baroque altar inside is sure to turn heads.
Good to know: On Sundays, the church can always be visited after Holy Mass between 2pm and 4pm.
